Bali Airport
Arrival, Taxis and Departure

Everything about Bali airport: arrival step by step, Grab and taxi prices, drive times to every area and departure tips.
Bali has one international airport: Ngurah Rai in Denpasar, airport code DPS. Almost everyone visiting Bali lands here, whether you’re flying in from Australia, Singapore, the Middle East, Europe or the US. This guide covers everything from touchdown to the back seat of your car: the arrival process step by step, how to get to your hotel and what it costs, drive times to each area, and what to know when you fly home.
The short version: the airport is in the south of Bali, 15–25 minutes from Kuta and 1–1.5 hours from Ubud. Sort out your e-VOA, tourist levy and arrival card before you fly, and arrival is quick. Pre-book a pickup or use Grab from the official pickup zone, and walk past the drivers offering rides in the arrivals hall. When you leave, be at the airport three hours before your flight.

Do this before you land
Three things should be done before you fly. They make arrival much faster:
- e-VOA (visa): IDR 500,000, about $30. Most visitors, including Australians, New Zealanders, Americans, Canadians, Britons and Europeans, can apply online. With an e-VOA you can use the automated passport gates and skip the visa queue.
- Tourist levy: IDR 150,000, about $9 per person, paid on Love Bali.
- All Indonesia arrival card: free, filled in no earlier than three days before you land.
Take a screenshot of every QR code so you have them even without signal. Links and step-by-step instructions are in our Bali visa guide.
Arriving at Bali airport, step by step
1. Immigration. With an e-VOA and a biometric passport, head to the autogates, scan your passport and look at the camera. It takes a couple of minutes. Without an e-VOA, you pay for the visa at the VOA counter and then join the immigration queue, which can take an hour or more in July, August, the Australian school holidays and around Christmas.

2. Baggage. The carousels are right after passport control. If you used the autogates, you’ll often wait a little for your bag.
3. Tourist levy and customs. Show your tourist levy QR code and your All Indonesia QR code. If you haven’t paid the levy, there are payment counters. With nothing to declare, walk out through the green channel.
4. Arrivals hall. This is where drivers wait with name signs, and where you’ll find ATMs, money changers and SIM card counters. With everything sorted in advance, arrival often takes under half an hour.
When you travel with us, your driver is waiting in the arrivals hall with your name on a sign. Airport pickup is included in all our holiday packages and retreats.

From Bali airport to your hotel
You have three good options:
Pre-booked pickup. The easiest choice, especially after a long flight or if you’re a group with lots of luggage. Your driver waits in arrivals and the price is agreed in advance. Many hotels offer it, and it’s included when you travel with us.
Grab or Gojek. Southeast Asia’s answer to Uber is usually the cheapest option. Book in the app once you have your bags. The Grab pickup zone is in the multi-storey car park next to the terminal (as of autumn 2026). Follow the signs, and ignore anyone inside the arrivals hall claiming to be a Grab driver. Late at night there can be fewer cars available.
Official taxi. Buy a fixed-price ticket at the taxi counter inside the terminal. It’s safer than accepting offers from drivers in the arrivals hall, who often charge two to three times as much.
For getting around the rest of your trip, see transport in Bali and hiring a private driver in Bali.
Drive times and prices from the airport

| Jimbaran | 15–25 min | IDR 80,000–120,000 ($5–7) | IDR 150,000–200,000 ($9–12) |
| Seminyak | 30–45 min | IDR 130,000–200,000 ($8–12) | IDR 150,000–250,000 ($9–15) |
| Sanur | 25–40 min | IDR 120,000–180,000 ($7–11) | IDR 200,000–250,000 ($12–15) |
| Nusa Dua | 25–35 min | IDR 130,000–200,000 ($8–12) | IDR 200,000–250,000 ($12–15) |
| Canggu | 45–75 min | IDR 180,000–280,000 ($11–17) | IDR 250,000–350,000 ($15–21) |
| Uluwatu | 45–60 min | IDR 180,000–280,000 ($11–17) | IDR 250,000–350,000 ($15–21) |
| Ubud | 1–1.5 hours | IDR 200,000–320,000 ($12–20) | IDR 350,000–450,000 ($21–28) |
Prices are a guide per car as of autumn 2026. Grab can be 20–40% more expensive at peak times, and traffic can make the trip longer, especially between 4 and 8 pm. To choose where to stay, see where to stay in Bali, and for distances, the map of Bali.
Money, SIM cards and Wi-Fi
ATMs. There are ATMs in the arrivals hall. Use ones from major banks like BCA, Mandiri or BNI, and withdraw enough for the first few days. Airport money changers usually give worse rates than in town.
SIM cards. The easiest option is an eSIM bought before you fly, so you’re online the moment you land. If you prefer a physical SIM, there are counters in arrivals, but they cost more than shops in town.
Wi-Fi. The airport has free Wi-Fi, so you can order a Grab even without a local SIM.

Departing from Bali airport
Arrive three hours early. Check-in for international flights usually opens three hours before departure. Traffic to the airport is the big unknown, so leave plenty of time. From Canggu and Ubud, allow up to two hours at peak times.
Security at the entrance. Your passport and ticket are checked at the door, and all bags go through an X-ray.
Check-in and passport control. If you entered on an e-VOA, you can use the autogates on the way out too. There’s no departure tax to pay at the airport; it’s included in your ticket.
Airside. You’ll find duty-free shops, restaurants and paid lounges. Flying to Australia or the US? There’s an extra security check at the gate, where liquids over 100 ml are confiscated, including duty-free.
Our tip: if you have an early flight, spend your last night near the airport, in Jimbaran, Nusa Dua, Sanur or Seminyak. It takes the stress out of traffic on departure day.
The domestic terminal
Domestic flights leave from a separate terminal, about a ten-minute walk from the international one. From here you can fly to Lombok in around 40 minutes and to Labuan Bajo, the gateway to Komodo, in just over an hour. See our Komodo tour and our Lombok and Gili Islands trip.
Nyepi: the day the airport closes
On Nyepi, the Balinese New Year, the whole island shuts down for 24 hours. The airport closes from 6 am until 6 am the next day, and no flights land or take off. In 2027, Nyepi falls on Monday 8 March. Don’t plan to arrive or leave that day. Read more in Balinese culture and customs.
