Honeymoon in Bali: The Complete Guide

Private villa, volcano sunrise and dinner on the cliff's edge. We have helped many Norwegian couples — here is everything you need to know about a honeymoon in Bali.
It’s no coincidence that Bali is one of the world’s most popular honeymoon destinations. Private villas with infinity pools above the jungle, dinner for two on the cliffs of Uluwatu, sunrise over the volcano crater on Mount Batur – the island delivers romance on a scale few places can match, and at a price that makes it possible without emptying your savings.
We’ve helped many couples plan their honeymoon in Bali. This is the advice we give them: which areas suit you, what the route can look like, what it costs and what makes the trip extra special.

Why Bali for your honeymoon?

Bali gives you more luxury for your money than almost any other destination. A private villa with a pool, daily breakfast and butler service that costs $1,500–2,500 a night in the Maldives can be found in Bali for $200–600. That means your budget stretches to experiences, dinners and spa treatments that would otherwise be out of reach.
But it’s not just the price. Bali combines the dramatic and the intimate: cliffs and temple sunsets in Uluwatu, jungle life and rice paddy mornings in Ubud, turquoise sea and coral reefs around Nusa Lembongan. No two weeks need to look the same.
The best areas for a honeymoon

Uluwatu is Bali’s most dramatic destination and the natural choice for a romantic start to your honeymoon. The cliffs drop steeply into the Indian Ocean, five-star resorts hang over the edge, and the kecak dance is performed at sunset in front of the temple on the clifftop.
Ubud and Mount Batur are for couples who want more than beach life. Jungle villas with private pools, a sunrise trek to the volcano crater followed by hot springs, and evenings at some of Bali’s best restaurants.
Nusa Lembongan is the quiet island paradise that rounds off the trip perfectly. Mangrove forests, turquoise water and snorkelling trips to see manta rays. Quieter and more exclusive than Nusa Penida.
| Area | Atmosphere | Best for | Recommended stay |
|---|---|---|---|
| Uluwatu | Dramatic, exclusive | Fine dining, clifftop sunsets | 3–4 nights |
| Ubud | Calm, cultural, jungle | Volcano trek, spa, food | 3–4 nights |
| Nusa Lembongan | Quiet, intimate, ocean | Snorkelling, relaxing | 2–3 nights |

Romantic tips
| Tip | Why |
|---|---|
| Book a private villa with a pool | The privacy and flexibility can’t be matched by a hotel room |
| Book a private beach dinner | Many resorts in Uluwatu and Jimbaran offer dinner on the beach – book ahead |
| Plan a professional photo shoot | Local photographers cost $200–500 and deliver photos far beyond what a phone can do |
| Don’t overfill the itinerary | A honeymoon isn’t a sightseeing tour. Leave enough nights without a plan |
| Finish on a quiet island | Lembongan or Amed give you the calm ending that Kuta and Seminyak can’t |
| Mention your honeymoon | Say it’s your honeymoon at check-in – most resorts add flowers or a little extra for free |
Best time to go
The dry season from April to October is ideal – blue skies, little rain and the best conditions for the beach and activities. May, June and September are the shoulder season: almost as good weather, noticeably lower prices and fewer tourists.
July and August are high season – hotel prices rise and popular restaurants are fully booked. Book everything at least 3–4 months in advance.
