The Road to Lovina — make the journey an experience
From Canggu and Seminyak, we recommend turning the drive itself into an experience. Instead of simply driving straight to Lovina, stop along the way and see some of the very best Bali has to offer.
Sangeh Monkey Forest is the first stop — and it's very different from the touristy Monkey Forest in Ubud center. Here, there are fewer visitors, it's more authentic, and you can actually feed the monkeys and have them sit on your shoulder. A pleasant and unpretentious experience early in the day.
Ulun Danu Beratan Temple is one of Bali's most beautiful places and a must-see on the trip north. The temple is located on the shores of Lake Beratan and dramatically reflects in the water. Here it's possible to hold snakes and bats, see owls, feed carp, and pet rabbits — which makes it especially fun for children and families. Have lunch here and take your time.
Bali Strawberry Farm & Resto — either on the way up or down, a pleasant stop for fresh strawberries and a break from driving.
The Lost Cafe is an absolute must on the way back. The cafe is owned by a local woman who was trained by a professional Italian chef, and she runs the place with her husband from the USA. The chicken curry is legendary — try it. It's one of the best dining experiences you'll have in this part of Bali.
Dolphin Safari — do it differently
Dolphin safari is Lovina's big draw, and it's an unforgettable experience. But most people do it wrong — they go at 6:00 AM with 100 other boats and fight for space.
Our tip: go at 8:00 AM instead. You avoid the crowds, it's warmer, and the dolphins are still there. Book a private boat with snorkeling included — then you can hang on a rope behind the boat and watch the dolphins swim beneath you in the water. It's a completely different experience than watching them from the deck.

Restaurants and bars in Lovina
Tanda Pizza is the place for authentic Italian food in Lovina. Simple, good, and surprisingly excellent — one of the best restaurants in town.
Global Village Kafé is a local favorite with very reasonable prices and a unique concept: all profits go to charity, and the staff are deaf and mute. You order from a color-coded menu that you point to. A pleasant and unique experience that gives back to the local community.
Funky Place is the spot for the evening — drinks, beer pong, and live music. Local vibe and one of the best bars in North Bali to meet other travelers.
Hotels in Lovina
Lovina Beach Club & Resort is our favorite — right by the beach with a pool and bar. Perfect location for a morning dolphin safari and a quiet evening by the sea.
New Sunari Lovina Beach Resort is a great alternative, also right by the beach, with direct pick-up for dolphin safaris.
Pandawa Village is ideal for those who want their own villa or room with a private pool and views of green areas at a reasonable price.
Puri Lovina Hotel is a budget-friendly option for those who want to keep costs down without sacrificing comfort.
Tip: Bring a private driver who will stay with you throughout your Lovina stay. Grab and Gojek are not widely available in the north, and most transport involves shuttles between destinations — not short trips within Lovina.
Aling-Aling Waterfall — perfect end to the trip
On the way back to South Bali after a dolphin safari and breakfast at your hotel: head to Aling-Aling. This is one of North Bali's best-kept secrets.
The trip starts with a visit to a beautiful waterfall, and then you can swim in a natural pool — or jump from heights of 5, 10, or 15 meters for the brave. It's also possible to slide down a waterfall. For those who want more action, ATVs and zip-lining are available up by the restaurant.
Aling-Aling is the perfect last stop — an adrenaline rush, natural water, and an end to the Lovina trip that's hard to beat.

Use the journey north as an experience — not just transportation. Sangeh and Ulun Danu alone are worth the trip. Book a dolphin safari at 8:00 AM instead of 6:00 AM and ask for snorkeling included. Have a private driver for the entire stay — it's not expensive and gives you complete freedom. Eat at Global Village Kafé at least once — it's one of the most unique dining experiences in Bali. And always finish with Aling-Aling on the way home.
